Waukesha - Two men have been accused of conducting a scam utilizing reusable grocery bags at the Wales Pick 'n Save stealing more than $10,000 from earlier November to early December last year.

The men used the self serve check out that allows a customer to enter a code for those who use reusable grocery bags and credits the customer five cents for every bag that was typed into the machine, according to the criminal complaint filed March 9 in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

Shaun C. Franke, 19, S4 W32970 Government Hill Road, Town of Delafield was charged with one felony count of theft for stealing $8,800. Ryan Struck, 18, 213 S. Oak Ridge Drive, North Prairie, was charged with a misdemeanor count of theft for stealing $2,181.55. Both men are scheduled to make their initial appearance in court March 23.

Franke told police he found out how to "hack" into the system and put in a large number of bags to receive the five cents cash back per bag, the complaint said. Struck told police Franke showed him how to conduct the scam.
