A Butler police officer found two geese with their necks broken at 5:33 a.m. April 12 at 125th Street and Lancaster Avenue.

The officer found the pair — one male, one female — were “warm to the touch,” his report said. He saw no blood on the road, but did find “a couple of feathers.”

The officer concluded that the geese had not been struck by a vehicle, and that someone had broken their necks.

Hampton Ave. in Butler uphill on Hampton Ave. east to 87th Street and Fairy Chasm Road in Milwaukee last Tuesday to make room for a new Butler Public Library near Historic Clarke House. Designed to look like an early 20th-century railway station, the new 6,000-square-foot library (four times the size of the current library in the back of Village Hall) will probably open sometime early next year, Friends officials say.
