Lannon — Waste Management officials say the company plans to continue normally-scheduled garbage pickups next week, including Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, despite the Teamsters Union drivers’ strike, though lower-priority recycling pickups might be delayed.

Village Administrator James Lamb said officials of the Houston-based company told him they would bring in management personnel and out-of-town and even out-of-state drivers to pick up the garbage on time.

Lannon's garbage usually gets picked up Monday afternoons, except on holidays.

Lannon plans to finish water main by mid-July

Lannon officials expect to complete installation of its $1.25 million Main Street water main by mid-July, according to Village Administrator James Lamb.

Homeowners and businesses who want to hook up to the system will have to pay about $7,500 for the privilege, he added, but no one will be forced to connect to the system. The project will also install fire hydrants along Main Street for better fire protection and faster response.

The pipeline will be installed under the street's right-of-way, so construction work will not require any lane closings. Traffic on Main Street will be narrowed for the state's Highway 74 project, however, for some of its estimated construction schedule of May 5 through mid-November.

Lannon sets up dumpsters for yard waste, big items

The Village of Lannon has set up a pair of 30-yard dumpsters outside Village Hall — one for yard waste and another for throwaways too large for regular trash pickups.

The yard-waste dumpster will take brush and branches up to six inches in diameter. Thicker branches and tree limbs and trunks may be dropped off in a pile next to the dumpster, which the Fire Department will burn.

The dumpsters will remain until they're full, according to Village Administrator James Lamb.
