"Slow - No Wake" lifted from Pewaukee Lake

Pewaukee - The "Slow- No Wake" restrictions on Pewaukee Lake were lifted at 3:30 p.m. today.

Measurements taken by Pewaukee Village officials indicate that the water has receded to a level that is safe for normal watercraft operations, stated a news release from City of Pewaukee Police Captain Dan Meister.

According to City of Pewaukee officials, the water quality is still a concern.  Pewaukee Lake has been closed for swimming since June 26 because of potentially toxic blue-green algae.  The Department of Natural Resources states that the blue-green algae can cause symptoms like skin rash, hives, runny nose, and throat irritation.

Any questions regarding water quality and beach restrictions should be referred to the City of Pewaukee City Hall at (262) 691-0770.

City of Pewaukee Police clarify boat restrictions for Pewaukee Lake

City of Pewaukee Police Captain Dan Meister said that boats are allowed on Pewaukee Lake, but they must abide by two rules:

- If you have a boat or watercraft on the lake, you cannot use motors. Electric trolling motors are allowed.

- If you are using an electric trolling motor, there is a slow, no-wake policy in effect on the lake.

Meister said that additional information regarding current Pewaukee Lake policies is available at the City of Pewaukee Police Department's Web site.

City of Pewaukee Police Chief Gary Bach added that the no motor policy will be lifted as of Saturday, June 28. The slow, no-wake will stay in effect, however, because Pewaukee Lake is still 15 inches above the normal level.

"It has come down one foot already," Bach said, "but we're still way above. That just shows how high it has been."
