Whining about injuries/hitting slumps/pitching issues/blah blah blah, is non-productive..coaches motivate, coaches become creative, coaches role-model, coaches shake/rattle/& roll until their team begins to resemble the talented group they were supposed to be ....Unfortunately, head coaches are frequently the sacrificial lambs during hard times....however, if we don't wake-up soon, the hole we are digging may be too deep to climb out of. Of course, Ned is a nice/likeable guy....but, nice and likeable isn't working right now....we need Atila the Hun. So long, Ned.

The successful recovery rate for an ACL injury is good these days, and I think it would be shocking if Gallardo's return to the team is delayed beyond opening day next year. Sheets' situation has nothing to do with Gallardo, and I don't think this changes the envisioned reality of Gallardo as next year's No. 1, with Sheets elsewhere. They'll be careful, but not so careful that they let this injury eat into Gallardo's career, or the Brewers pocketbook.

2. Vargas had no options remaining when the team demoted him after Spring Training, and he has since signed a minor-league deal with the Mets. He could be back, however, especially with the Mets showing interest in Turnbow. The starting five that the Crew currently has is (perhaps unfortunately) the most sensible alignment.

3. Sabathia will probably get discussed around these parts, and he figures to be the premier pitcher on the free agent market this offseason. That makes the Brewers signing him unlikely, if only because it's Milwaukee and the player will get offers from New York and the like. Landing him would be a very nice boost -- but if the team could pay markedly less for Sheets, they'd probably do that instead. Sabathia's size doesn't worry me, but the size of his contract will make him all but impossible to hire.

What about re-calling Vargas--he was a 12-game winner next year--I don't know who you send down though?

Who is available as a starter on the open-market for next year if Sheets leaves? What about C.C. Sabathia? (He's fat and out-of-shape, but he will be available and is decent.)

What are your thoughts?

Keep talking Brewers, my friend, without Favre in GB and with the Buck's lousy season(s) there are NO other sports anymore!
