Today is like every other day--full of interest, knowledge, investigation, and renewal and making of old and new friends. We are so pleased to representing Oconomowoc as everyone we meet is so interested in knowing about our area and we are happy to tell them all about us. We feel that we have made great progess in spreading the word and we now have several people that are interested in visting our community. We think we will have may opportunities for lots of internationational exchanges and we afre looking forward to all this has to offer for both communites and Counties. We understand there is snow at home but we are going o a Christmas Market tomorrow  and acutally hope it snows a little rather than the fog we've had--we would love to see the beautiful country side that reminds us of Oconomowoc.  Cheers   Maureen

Christams is a wonderful time to be in Germany.  We experienced the Christmas Market in Frankfurt. It is a beautiful and busy place. On Monday, the delagation visited the Heinrich Mann Schule, which is one of the schools in Dietzenbach.  It was an interesting day interacting with the children, thier science projects, and had a discussion about the economy and the worldwide effects.  The hospitality is wonderful, and there is a very busy itinerary ahead of us the next several days.

Before we go, however, we have to view and see with awe our new Perfoming Arts Center and the 1st play "The Christmas Carol"--then we're off. Maureen Stapleton

Dietzenbach, Germany & Oconomowoc Sister City Exchange

By Maury Sullivan
Friday, Dec 5 2008, 08:04 AM
The Oconomowoc delegation, as part of an exchange with Dietzenbach, Germany, leaves this weekend for a visit between Oconomowoc delegation members and their counterparts from Dietzenbach.  Our delegation members include Kathy Kempf (past president of Kiwanis,) Maureen Stapleton (realtor) Gerry Noll (president of the Chamber of Commerce,) Pat Neudecker (superintendent of schools,) Joseph Moylan (high school principal,) Jim Oleary (teacher,) Bob Duffy (economic development director,) and myself.  In addition, Dan Vrakas (county executive) is going. The length of the travel and exchange will be 6-7 days. By way of background, Wisconsin's Germany sister-state is Hessen, Waukesha County's sister-county is Offenbach and now Brookfield and Oconomowoc will each have a sister-city in that German state and county, corresponding with Wisconsin's and Waukesha County's "sister relationships."

The purpose of the trip is to establish closer ties between our communities (we call this relationship a "sister-city") and to initiate exploration of mutual interest in the areas of education, culture, tourism, and economic development. The City's initial areas of primary interest are education and economic development.

During the trip our delegation members will have a formal signing of the "sister-city" relationship with their city council, meet various businesses representatives and meet with school representatives. By the way, the trip costs are not funded by taxpayers---rather most costs are personally/privately funded.

The Oconomowoc delegation is enthusiastic about our up coming visit and will, from time to time, send reports back to Oconomowoc.
